Is it really almost Labor Day
already? Looking ahead a month to write this column really makes time seem to
fly.
Our unit will be having its NAP
qualifying game on Sunday, September 19, beginning at 11 a.m. (contrary to what
you may have read elsewhere) with the time of the second session to be
announced.
After directing Tuesday nights this
summer and giving me a break, Lynn Yokel
(408-374-4669; lyokel@sprynet.com) will
be resuming her lessons for beginning and intermediate players in September.
And I’ll be back directing, having learned I miss parts of it.
I didn’t make it to the New York nationals but
several of our unit members did. Fran Dickman’s team won the Senior Swiss
event. Sathya Bettadapura’s Grand National team won Flight B. Rose Meltzer’s
team was second in the Mixed Board-a-Match. Robert & Marcia Dean did well,
placing sixth in the LM-5000 Pairs, first in their stratification in a Swiss
team with another strat first in a two-session pairs
game. Bill Bidermann’s team won a knockout.
On the local front, at the San Mateo sectional strat
tops were earned by Dianne Shannon, Kit Humphrey & Henri Fahri, Gary Porter, Yi-Qun Jin, Gary Ratts & Cathy
Stahler. Winning their Swiss team strats were Kit Humphrey & Henri Farhi,
and Janet Adamiak, Erin Gove, Hiram Shen & Eric Yang.
At the San Francisco sectional,
strat tops went to Ted Richmond, Steve Chen,
Josephine Murray & Erma McCrory. Winning their Swiss strat were Mindy Foos & Shih-Ming Shih. (It was nice to Shih
you again.) I dragged my Swiss team to a strat bottom. Doesn’t it seem like
some days your mind just slips out of bridge gear? I think mine stayed home in
bed catching up on sleep.

missed anything, please let me know at rayyuenger@comcast.net
