            I’m recovering from the recent All-Western Regional as I write this. I played a lot. Other unit members played well. Among the more significant accomplishments, in the top 10 in the two-day open pair game were Rick Jasper (2nd), Marcia & Robert Dean (6th), Qing Yang (7th), Yul Inn & Cheryl Mandala (10th). First in their stratification in two-session pair games were: Bill Reister, Norman Wang & Boyer Chu, Richard O’Brien, Mostafa Hafezi, and David Chang. Some of these had multiple strat tops. Believe me, it’s tough enough to chain together two good sessions, let alone four.

            Stratification tops in the limited games went to: Wendy Dewell & Richard Kelly, Marc Epstein & Alan Chase, Mary Stewart, Sheri Archer & Betty Rosa, Julie Joyce, Barbara Coyle, Donald Stone, Selma Chastaine, Ron Baron & Ken Rosenfeld, Mac & Milly Morris, Art & Colette Quaife, Mervin & Shirley Falk. Ravi Thomas & Neil Robinson and Nonyu Li & Jiang Chen topped their strats in the charity pairs.

            On winning knockout teams were Don Nemiro, Peggy Chen, and Eileen Edwards. Rose Meltzer’s team won the open Swiss. Panette Talia, Harriel Shea, & Fran Dickman won the Senior Swiss. Winning other Swiss strats were Jennifer Gu and Nongyu Li; Surendra Mandava; Steve Bosma, Elaine Erickson, Dan Turkus, & Dan O’Neal; Barbara & Douglas Weber; Elaine Elkin, Ted Finlayson, Russell & Mildred Brewer; Allan Malloy, and the Fotland clan, David, Jonathan, and Wendy.

            Unit members also did well in some single-session open games, but, to save space, I don’t report on those results from a regional. Our kindly editor has allowed my last two columns to exceed space limits, knowing that sometimes, like this month, I run out of bridge news more quickly.

            Earlier in August, in our unit Swiss game, first in their strats were the teams of Tania Moalem, Jack Verson, Dana Brown & Bruce Luttrell; Joe Chui, John Prior, Jerry Lundquist & Leon Lee; John & Mischel Postas, Ed Chen & Mich Ravera.

            Congratulations to our following new masters: Charlotte Miller, R. Ponnapalli, William Smith (Junior); Wendy Fotland, Paul Lee, Richard Markell (Club); Peggy Sprague (Regional); Mike Carney, Jerry Lundquist, Frank Napolitan, Raja Smadi (Life); Ravi Thomas (Bronze).
