The All Western Championship regional has just ended, but there’s always more happening in the bridge world. Our unit NAP qualifier is on Sunday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m. with the time of the second session to be announced. This game is often a full house so think about arriving early at the club for a seat.

At the regional, Qing Yang placed fifth in the two-day open pairs. In two-session open pairs games, stratification tops were earned by Paul Nelson & Josephine Cooley, Boyer Chu, William Reister, Michael Fleisher & Mindy Foos, Li-Chung Chen, Barbara Harkleroad & Kathy Keener, Read Kitson, Mansoor Gowani, Connie Dunckelmann, Norma Black & Consorcia Ravelo, and Teddi & Derek Fiero.

On winning knockout teams were Rose Meltzer; Connie Dunckelmann; Judy Travis, Maxine & Ray Lubow; Ruth Sporer, Maureen Ellenberg, Harry Shannon & Hubert Roberts; and Tania Moalem, K-P Cheng, Dana Brown & Bruce Luttrell.

Section tops in 299er games went to Julie Joyce, Zbigniew Bieszke & Andrzej Wierzbicki, Mike Braun & Joan Simpson, Mich Ravera & Ken Rosenfeld, Keith Burnett & Bruce Scott, Art & Colette Quaife, Wendy Fotland & Alan Malloy, Kevin Haze, Kamen Nedeltchev & Chris Lazarovici, and Joel Koransky & Katarzyna Wesolowska. Stratification tops in Swiss teams went to Judith Clark & Michael O’Leary; Dana Brown & Bruce Luttrell; Diane Shannon and William Reister. Due to my deadline, I was unable to get all the results from the final day. My apologies to those unmentioned.

Dan Turkus, who was Mr. Partnership at the regional, deserves recognition for tirelessly and cheerfully matching people up. Dan, have you thought of going into sales?

Earlier in August, despite the vacation season, 9 tables turned out for a unit game honoring Don Nemiro. Dianne Shannon took first overall.

At the Hayward sectional, Frank Lowenthal placed first in the two-session pair game. Strat tops in the game went to Panette Talia and Jennifer Gu.
