The Santa Clara Valley sectional has been rescheduled this year to avoid a conflict with Yom Kippur. It is now from Friday October 29 through October 31. The unit board regrets the conflict with Halloween, but our options were limited. The sectional schedule will appear elsewhere in this newspaper. It is also on our website, sjbridge.org.

In August, Melvin & Shirley Falk had a stratification top at the Monterey 299er sectional. At the Hayward sectional, Li-Chung Chen was first overall in the two-session pairs game. Strat tops went to Jim Hayashi & Ray Yuenger and James Long.

Apparently I was not the only one out of town for our latest wine and cheese unit game. Don Nemiro & Fran Dickman won the 6-table game with Mich Ravera & Bill Garfield placing second overall and first in their strat. 10 teams showed up for the special Swiss STAC game with Neal Webb, Lynn Yokel, & Ray Yuenger ending up first.

My editor kindly gave me a time extension, which allows me to report the results of the Santa Clara All Western regional. In the premier two-day open pairs, Bill Langlois finished in third place, Li-Chung Chen in seventh.

Winning in two session open-pairs were Diane Shannon, Panette Talia & Ray Yuenger, and Xiaoyu Cheng. Strat and section tops in these events went to Tania Moalem & Bruce Luttrell, Candy & Earl Wentworth, Celso & Consorcia Ravelo, Richard Sarsfield, Derek & Teddi Fiero, Fran Dickman, Missy Coy, Ed Barlow, Connie Dunckelmann, Bonnie Beardsley & Faye Parsons, George Humphrey & Suzanne Cook, Michael Fleisher, David Gambelin, and Robert & Joan Rouse.

Strat and section tops in limited games were earned by Hemant Mandpe, Phyllis Gaffney & Louise Faulkner, Peggy Chen, John Prior & Raja Smadi, Bob & Nancy Ward, Cassandra Leung, Bruce Scott, Zbigniew Bieskzke, Jennifer Gu, Mervin & Shirley Falk, Joseph Chui, Richard Bader, Fia & Ben Bosklopper, Karen Kulander & Happy Fordham, Josephine Murray & Erma McCrory, Joan Simpson, Carol Thompson, Nadia Nillson & Katarzyna Wesolowska, Mike Carney & Mike O’Connor, Elizabeth Strasen, Norma Epler, Bruce Scott & Bob Martin, and Nancy Rude.

Collecting strat and section tops in senior pairs were Mostafa Hafezi & Trina Bowman, Victor Rivkin & Boris Ginzburg, Norman Wang & Chingling Jim Tseng, Judith Clark & Gabi Pani, Faye Parsons & Joyce Hatfield, Ted Richmond & Bill Reister, Richard Sarsfield, Art Fonda, Suzanne Cook, Billee Giansiracusa & Norma Black, Steve Bosma & Kenneth Kenfield, Judith Clark, and Ed Barlow.

Bill Yetter, David Gambelin, & Tania Moalem were on a winning knockout team, as was Gary Soules. Topping the senior Swiss were Dianne Shannon, Ted Richmond & Bill Reister. Louann Partridge’s team was first in the B/C/D Swiss.

I was sorry to hear Jurii Klonizchii passed away.
