Tania Moalem and her able assistants again did a fine job of presenting our recent Santa Clara Valley sectional. Tania is living proof that practice (in organizing tournaments and playing bridge) makes perfect. Thanks to everyone who donated the tasty snacks and who helped set up tables and chairs. It may seem like magic when you show up for a tournament to find a chair and a pencil at your designated table, but it takes volunteered magic. Those of you who stayed home missed out.

Steve Kanzee & Bill Laubheimer won the two-session pairs event.  Unit members who earned stratification tops in pairs events were Lynn Yokel & Ray Yuenger, Faye Parsons & Mostafa Hafezi, Frank Lowenthal & K-P Cheng, Jeanne Becht & Sabina Siem, Raja Smadi, Robert & Linda Caren, Joseph Dodson, Lee Dimmit & Constance Dunckelmann, Bruce Scott & Lynn Shannon, Roy & Lynne Denman, Barbara & Ed Barlow, Shaila & Hemant Mandpe, Dan Turkus, Shirley Anderson & Rita Randolph, Zbigniew Bieszke & Andrzej Wierzbicki, Joel Koransky & Katarzyna Wesolowska, Kamen Nedeltchev & Chris Lazarovici, Don Nemiro, Stephen Tu, Leon Lee & Jerry Lundquist, Harvey Lindauer & Louis Martin, Kevin Haze, Joan Simpson & Mike Braun, Kathy Coons & Beverly Nelson, Morgan & Mary Jane Lucid, Gretchen Podd & Alice Benyman, Derek & Teddi Fiero, Thomas Scharf, Jack Verson & Dana Brown, Louise Faulkner & Happy Fordham, Mike Carney, Randolf Rice & Mary Harvel, Marilyn Imaoka-Yancey, Ray & Maxine Lubow, Jeff Hack, and Mich Ravera & Pam Woods. In case this seems like lots of pairs, I think our members are THAT good AND we did add a fast open pairs event on the Sunday of the tournament.

Winning the X flight in Swiss teams were Robert & Marcia Dean. An out-of-town team swept the B-C-D Swiss.

Turnabout is fair play. Earlier in the month, the team of Tania Moalem, Jack Verson, Marilyn & Marshall Yancey made the trip to the Sacramento sectional worthwhile, winning the X-flight. Tania tacked that onto a second place finish in the two-session pairs game the day before.

In view of other events occurring in November, the Unit Board has decided not to schedule a unit game. But in December we will have our holiday party and also a special STAC game. Stay tuned next month for details.
