Some of you will see this before the Santa Clara Valley sectional ends on October 31. If you do, I hope to see you at our sectional.

I packed all the winners of the Santa Clara regional into my last column. So this month’s column will be short and (I hope) sweet, particularly since you’ll get to consume it on Halloween.

Since we temporarily rescheduled our sectional, September was a slow month for bridge. Our members had to travel to succeed in tournaments. Erin Gove & Janet Adamiak made the most of the Long Beach regional, winning a knockout and several limited pairs events. Don Nemiro’s Swiss team won in the Seaside Oregon regional. Mike Carney had a stratification top in the Sacramento sectional. Judith Clark & Michael O’Leary did the same in the Santa Rosa sectional.

We had 16 tables for our NAP unit qualifier, which almost filled our club to capacity. Gary & Jan Soules finished first after two sessions in a strong field. First in Bs were Tania Moalem & Dana Brown. Tania also made sure that no one passed out from hunger, providing a fine feast.

Tuesday night players will have noticed that Will Watson is now directing on alternate Tuesday nights. If you would like to learn about becoming a director, you can talk to any of the directors at the club.
