Here we go heading into the holidays already. Time flies when you’re playing bridge. Our unit holiday party is scheduled for Sunday, December 15. More details in my next column. No unit game in November.

Our Santa Clara sectional just ended. Thanks to Phyllis Vierra for organizing everything while tending to an ailing mother. Lynn & Larry Brown helped a lot with refreshments and caddies. I hear Gigi Spinazze donated some good food. It disappeared before I got to it.

At our sectional Lynn Brown also claimed a stratification top in a pairs game, as did the following: Ginn Hua, Ray Yuenger, Elaine Erickson & William Ahrens, Carol Stein & Margaret James, Bill Traver, Sherry Waki, Beverly Nelson & Lucy Burke, William & Irene Price, Faye Parsons, Dan Turkus & K-P Cheng, Mike Roney & Nagraj Alur, Kenneth Yip & Andy Andrews, Diane Shannon, Teddi & Derek Fiero, William Reister & Bill Langlois, Leon Lee & Eric Yang, Suresh Vasa, Tomie Sera, and Daren Kuo.

In the two-session pairs game, William Laubheimer & Steve Kanzee ran away from the field. Marcia & Robert Dean finished second. Tania Moalem & Richard Sarsfield were first in their strat. Strat tops within this event went to Bruce & Barbara Luttrell, Robert & Joan Rouse, Ron Siegrist & Ray Yuenger, Hiram Shen & Eric Yang, Rose Meltzer, Joyce Sogg, Ted Richmond & William Reister, Lynn Yokel, Alex Tampilang, Jeff Hack, Bill Langlois, Gigi Spinazze & Shih-Ming Shih, Maxine Lubow & Carol Stein, and Wesley Woo.

Rose Meltzer’s team won the open Swiss. Annette Powers & Lynn Yokel won the X flight. As an opponent I helped them on their way to a blitz. What are friends for? An out-of-town D team won the B/C/D Swiss. Winning the under-300 Swiss were Ruth Sporer, Maureen Ellenberg, Irwin & Marion Wentzien. Winning their strat were Gary Kao, Shih Wei Lu, Ursula Gueldner, & Frank Napolitan.

Unfortunately attendance dropped for the novice pairs and knockout teams. We’ll have to promote these events better next time.

At the earlier Sacramento sectional Robert & Joan Rouse had strat tops. Jan & Gary Soule were second in the two-session pairs.

At the Marin sectional, strat tops went to Lynn Yokel and Chingling Jim Tseng.

We owe Eric Yang thanks for donating a computer to the club. Fran Dickman donated a printer. I’m hoping we’ll be able to post club results on our website someday.

I’ll say it again. We need more directors. Lynn Yokel has retired to her family. Neal Webb and Ray Yuenger will carry on on Tuesday nights. Contact me if you’d like to learn how to become a director.
