On Sunday, March 19 at 11 a.m. is our annual unit game honoring the 2005 Ace of Clubs and mini-McKenney winners. You may have received a postcard with this announcement, though probably addressed to someone else. There’s no truth to the rumor that I intentionally shuffled the names and addresses of our unit members to see who really reads our postcards. My apologies for this mistaken mail merge.

Starting in March, Lynn Yokel will be offering a review of bidding for advancing beginners on Friday mornings and also play of the hand lessons at the Saratoga Community Center on Monday mornings. For more information contact her at LynnYokel@comcast.net or (408)374-4669.

Speaking of Lynn, she got the New Year started at the Monterey regional with two first place finishes in open pair games, with Ron Siegrist and Ray Yuenger. Other strat firsts in open two-session pair games were earned by Neil Robinson & Ravi Thomas, K-P Cheng & Bruce Luttrell, Don Nemiro, Boyer Chu & David Chang, Ed Barlow and Stu Goodgold. Taking strat firsts in limited games were Robert & Linda Caren, Lynn Shannon & Bruce Scott, Mike & Janet Sullivan, Marc Epstein, Randolf Rice & Mary Harvel, Richard Chueh, Ivy Chueh & Helen Chao.

On winning knockout teams (not consolation winners) were Drew Todd, Li-Chung Chen, Rose Meltzer, Candy & Earl Wentworth, Erin Gove, John Prior, Joseph Chui, Fung Bao, Jan Adamiak, Michael Fleisher & Mindy Foos. On winning Swiss teams were Rose Meltzer, Stu Goodgold, Jennifer Gu, Faye Parsons, Chee Tung, David Chang, Mary Harvel, Randolf Rice, Charles Hung & Richard Chueh.

At the Pleasanton sectional, Michael Fleisher & Mindy Foos had a strat top in the two-session pairs game. Glenn Quinn got a section top. Winning their Swiss brackets were Don Nemiro, Chee Tung & Chingling Jim Tseng.

Eight tables of players turned out for the wine and cheese unit game. I hope everyone made it home safely after enjoying the wine, which was contributed by our unit and some generous members. Mindy Foos & Michael Fleisher were first overall with Kit Humphrey & Henri Fahri first in their direction, and Kamen Nedeltchev & Chris Lazarovici first in the remaining two strats.
