On Sunday March 24 at noon is our popular Pro-Am game. There will be signups at the San Jose Bridge Club. It’s a nice opportunity for more experienced players to share their knowledge with those eager to learn.

Monterey regional results should be elsewhere in this paper. Among the notable:  first in their pair stratifications were: Linda & Robert Caren (more than once), Ted Richmond, Stu Goodgold & Ray Yuenger, Tom Dougherty, and Annette Powers & Neal Webb. Gigi Spinazze & Mindy Foos won the Flight B pairs. Winning their knockouts were Jim Hayashi & Anne Boboricken; Richard Jacobs, Hiram Shen, Robert & Joan Rouse; and Sam Morley. Winning in Swiss teams were Tani Moalem, Art Fonda, Jo Cooley & Keith McMahan; Robert Dannels; and Derek & Teddi Fiero. Tying were the teams of Jane Casciano, Joy Baker, Karen O’Connell & Judith Etherington and Michael Ravera, Pamela Woods, Mike & Janet Sullivan. Will Watson & Sathy Bettadapura were 3rd in the NAOP B pairs.

I’d rather travel to the Hawaii regional in person than visit the website, but this reporting job doesn’t pay that much. In pairs games, first in their strats were Gary & Jan Soules, Shih-Ming Shih, and Gary Ratts & Cathy Stahler. Gary Soules’ Swiss team was first. Shih-Ming won a knockout, teaming with Gigi Spinazze.

At the San Francisco sectional, strat tops went to Chingling Jim Tseng, Mindy Foos & Stephen Tu, Eugene Vodkin & Boris Ginzburg. Richard Reitman was 4th in the NAOP Flight A pairs. Winning their respective Swiss team brackets were Vibeke Gilbreath and Steve Chen.

We had 15 tables for our January unit game, the Rose Bowl, to celebrate Rose Meltzer’s Bermuda Bowl victory. Stu Goodgold & John Hoffman dropped in to fill out a table and ended up winning the event, with Michael Migdol & Shih-Ming Shih first in their direction. Stephen Tu & Steven Chen were first in the Bs in their direction. Topping the Cs were Phyllis Vierra & Hiram Shen and H. Zoellner & Joseph Poppo. It was another enjoyable unit game with champagne and cake.

At the Livermore sectional, Steve Chen & Stephen Tu had a strat top in the pairs game, as did Frank Lowenthal. Steve and Stephen went their separate ways on Sunday, with the Swiss team of each winning their respective brackets. Steve’s team included T.C. Yang, Fang Wu & Michael Fleisher.

Faye Parson’s pregame lessons on Sunday and Thursday evenings are proving popular. On Sundays she talks about standard bidding, on Thursdays 2 over 1 bidding.
