She did it again. By tireless drum-beating, cajoling, and promises of beer, Lynn Yokel organized 16 tables for another enjoyable Pro-Am unit game. It’s encouraging to see this cross-pollination among bridge players (the kind of cross-pollination suitable for a family paper). Roger Smith generously traveled from Sacramento to help out. Overall winners were Richard Reitman & Steve Chen. No surprise there. First in the other direction were Victor Rivkin & Julie Joyce.

In January, we had a memorial unit game for Donna Munday, which raised over $250 in donations to the American Cancer Society in Donna’s name. Leila Sink & David Hembold were first overall, with Gary Porter & Paul Cornelius first in the other direction. First in the Bs were Richard Jacobs & Alex Tampilang.

At the San Francisco sectional Bin Dai won the afternoon session and Joy Sarma won the evening session. Strat tops were earned by Shirley Anderson & Rita Randolph and Leon Lee & Ray Crist. In the under-100 game Hiram Shen & Richard Jacobs had a strat top. First in their respective Swiss team brackets were Leila Sink & Will Watson and Shih-Ming Shih & Gigi Spinazze.

I’m glad the Monterey regional returned this year. If you had to catch a cold (as George Pledger and I did), it was a nice place to do it, with unseasonably warm weather. More complete results should appear elsewhere in this paper. Particularly notable from our unit’s perspective were two-session first places by Annette Powers & Lynn Yokel in the BCD pairs and by David Pankratz in senior pairs. Stan Batiste & Hiram Shen topped one 299ers game, while by Bob Elliott topped several.

I have no news from the Hawaii regional. If you’d like me report on it, I’d greatly appreciate contributions for travel expenses.
