Although our annual membership dinner and game is still more than a month away, now is the time for Unit 507 members to sign up at the San Jose bridge club for a free dinner at the Sonoma Chicken Coop in Campbell on Saturday night, July 8.  Details about the dinner will be on the sign-up sheet.

June signals the start of N(orth) A(merican) P(airs) qualifying games at the bridge club. The dates of these NAP games will be announced in the club and on our website, sjbridge.org.

Lynn Yokel will be offering lessons to Advanced Beginners and Intermediates throughout the summer. If you’re interested in lessons for groups, foursomes, pairs, or individual, contact Lynn at (408)374-4669 or lynnyokel@comcast.net.

At our mini-McKenney/Ace of Clubs unit game, Teddi & Derek Fiero came in 1st, with Nongyu Li & Jiang Chen first in the remaining stratifications. If you want to be honored at next year’s event, better come out and play regularly.

At the Diablo Valley sectional, Kit Humphrey and Henri Fahri were not only an elegant pair, so I’m told, but they won the event with a 71.59% game. Gigi Spinazze & Lynn Yokel had a section top, as did Frank Lowenthal & Grant Robinson. In other pair events, Jiang Chen won the two-session pair game. Earning section tops in that game were Tania Moalem & Dana Brown and Frank Lowenthal. Frank’s Swiss team also won in the top bracket, as did the teams including Michael Fleisher & Mindy Foos and Amar Chunder in their brackets.

At the Marin sectional, stratification tops went to Nonyu Li and T-C Yang. Cheryl Mandala, Yul Inn, Will Watson & Ed Barlow prevailed in the top bracket of the Swiss.  At the San Diego regional, Joel Koransky had a strat top.

Congratulations to all our new masters: Gretchen Podd, John Watson-Williams, and Bob & Carole Woldstad (Junior); Barbara Coyle, Gary & Gladys Fong, and Melanie Kakalec (Club); and Michael O’Conner and Bob Ward (Regional).
