We are currently electing new members to the unit board. If you haven’t already voted by the time you read this, please do so at the San Jose Bridge Center. Election results will be announced on Sunday, June 15, at our member appreciation dinner at the Fung Lum restaurant beginning at 4:30 p.m. If you are an active unit member, please sign up at the club for this free dinner, to be followed by a bridge game. More details will be posted at the club.

          13 tables turned out for our Pro-Am unit game. Gigi Spinazze organized the game and provided delectable snacks. Thanks to all the “pros” who came out to encourage our newer players. Taking first among these brand-new partnerships were Bill Yetter & Rehka Nirula. First in the B & C flights were Joyce Sogg & Kathleen Donaldson.

          At the San Ramon sectional, Steve Chen & Michael Fleisher were second overall and first in their strat in a two-session pairs game. ChingLing Jim Tseng was first in his strat. Tseng’s team with Ginn Hua was also first in their Swiss bracket, as was Tania Moalem’s team.

          Phyllis Vierra did her usual fine job of organizing our Santa Clara sectional, unfortunately for the last time, as Phyllis has stepped down as sectional chair. Thanks to President Dan Turkus for his work in setting up and taking down the tables and chairs. Next time we could use more volunteers. Thanks to Gary Soules for giving a talk on constructive preempts.

At our sectional T.-C. Yang & K.-P. Cheng took first in the two-session open pairs game. Other strat tops in that event went to Clifford Meltzer, Marolyn Imaoka-Yancey & Kathleen Keener, Constance Dunckelmann, John Preovolos & Bert Goldstein. Recording strat tops in single-session open pair games were William Ahrens & Mostafa Hafezi, Annette Powers & Lynn Yokel, Ruth Sporer & Maureen Ellenberg, Jeffrey Hack, Joseph Dodson, Donald Perry & Glenn Hudson, Don Hayden & Ruthann Critchfield, Malcolm Stewart & Eric Yang.

          Erma McCrory & Jo Murray were first in the 10-table under 20-game. First in the other direction were Sandra & Joseph Barletta. Topping their strats in the limited pair games were Robert & Linda Caren, Greg Dougherty, Kanti Khokhani & Suresh Vasa, Ivy Chueh & Cassandra Leung, Jennye Foss & Sandra Caeton, and Zbigniew Bieszke.

          In the Swiss teams, first in flight X were Jeffrey Hu, K.-P. Cheng, & Daren Kuo. Zbigniew Bieszke’s team was first in flight D. Ginn Hua’s team was first in the 299er Swiss.
