Our annual free member appreciation dinner is scheduled for Sunday, June 30 at 5:30 p.m. at Fung Lum’s restaurant. To attend you need to belong to Unit 507 and either sign up at the club or contact Lynn Yokel by June 20th at (408)374-4669 or lyokel@spry.net. President Dan Turkus has arranged for us to enjoy the same feast we had last year. Newly elected unit board members will be announced at dinner. You still have time to vote at the club. Following dinner will be a free stratified pairs unit game with a separate section for newcomers. Another benefit of belonging to our unit.

Our spring sectional was again a success. Phyllis Vierra did her usual good job of coordinating all the aspects of a tournament including caddies, table setup, partnership desk, signs.

James Boey & Robert Byrum took first in the two-session pairs game. Recording stratification tops in single-session pair games were Ed Barlow & Bill Langlois, Dan O’Neal & Marilyn Campbell, Joyce Sogg & Gabi Pani, Ray Yuenger & Lynn Yokel, Wesley Woo & Victor Rivkin, Emil Domis, Corinn Carter, Gary & Jan Soules, Jack Uppal & Ed Lin, Nagraj Alur, Phyllis Vierra, Stacie Bowman & Elizabeth Strasen, Eric Yang & Leon Lee, Matt Moore & Herb Jubin, Morey Goldstein & Rita Randolph, Peter Kao & Nelson Lu, Greg Dougherty, Jane Casciano & Joy Baker, Stephen Tu, Annette Powers, Steve Chen, Robert & Linda Caren, Gerry & Joan Piaget. (No space for repeat winners.) We had 17 novice pairs. First in their direction were Beverly Nelson & Lucy Burke. Bill Garrett won the trophy for most masterpoints by an under-200 player.

16 teams competed in the new one-day knockout. Steve Conaway’s team won the 2nd bracket. Rose Meltzer’s team won the open Swiss. First in the X flight were Neal Webb, Lynn Yokel, Ron Siegrist & Ray Yuenger. (What a thrill!) Chingling Jim Tseng’s D team won the B/C/D Swiss. Greg & Tom Dougherty’s team won the 299er Swiss. Our webmaster, Will Watson, had the results posted promptly at sjbridge.org.

Tania Moalem finished 2nd in the 2-session pairs game at the Diablo Valley sectional. Winning their respective Swiss brackets were the teams of Ed Barlow, Tania, and Bertrand Tsu.

12 and 1/2 tables turned out for our unit game announcing last year’s mini-McKenney and Ace of Clubs winners. Overall winners were Fred Chasalow & Michael Heymann. First in the other direction were Kathy Maxfield & Michael Fleisher. First in their strats were Judy Namanny & Shirley Anderson and Mike Carney & Charles Reinthaler.

Our unit members are on all the winning Grand National Teams in the district so far. Shih-Ming Shih and Mindy Foos in flight C, T.C. Yang & Fang Wu in flight B, Frank Lowenthal in flight A.

Art Fonda will spread cheer to unit members in failing health, but he needs to hear about who they are.
