Wow! Summer has arrived in a rush with a late May-early June hot spell. This means, of course, that the Sacramento regional has just ended, with several notable performances by local unit members. In the two-session open pairs games, Ed Barlow took first twice! William Reister, Jr. & Ted Richmond were first in another game. Faye Parsons & K-P Cheng were 2nd in one game, followed by Judy Fisher & Bonnie Beardsley in 3rd. Ginn Hua was first in her stratification. 1st in 299er games were Jane Casciano & Phyllis Reinhardt and Gerry & Joan Piaget.

In team games, winning the premier two-day open Swiss was a team including Will Watson & John Hoffman. Third were Steve Chen, Stephen Tu, & Gary Porter. In other Swiss events, Beverly Wright’s team was first in its strat, Bonnie & Judy’s team was 2nd by one victory point, and Annette Powers & Lynn Yokel were first in their strat. On winning knockout teams were Eric Yang, Robert & Marcia Dean, and the Piagets. Other results should appear elsewhere in this paper. In an otherwise enjoyable tournament, someone dropped the ball by having no team scores available for the last two days.

At the Monterey sectional, strat tops went to Eileen Edwards, Don Nemiro, Joy Baker & Jane Casciano, Mindy Foos & Michael Fleisher. Tania Moalem’s team took first in A/X. A team with Hiram Shen & Eric Yang was first in their strat. Zbigniew Bieszke’s team was first in their strat.

At the Napa sectional, Will Watson took first in the two-session pair game. Strat tops went to ChingLing Jim Tseng, Tania Moalem, Joy Baker & Ray Crist.

As I write our unit board election is ongoing. The newly elected directors will be announced at our member appreciation dinner, so you’ll get that news there long before you read it here. Our unit board will schedule another unit game when we can find a date that does not conflict with the many local tournaments coming up.
