Summer is arriving. The sun is beating down. Many local sectionals are heating up. Get ready for fireworks. We will try to supply some with a potluck unit game on Sunday, July 28. Look for notices at the San Jose Bridge Club and at sjbridge.org.

Looking back to May activity, Jane Casciano and Joy Baker made the trip to the Sacramento sectional worthwhile by earning a stratification top.

At the Lone Cypress sectional, new Silver Life Master Lynn Yokel and new Life Master Steve Chen paired up for an overall first in a pairs game. Strat tops went to Robert & Joan Rouse, Elizabeth Moley & Judi Carollo, Victor Rivkin, Gary Ratts & Shirley Anderson, Phyllis Vierra & Alex Tampilang, and Missy Coy. Winning their knockout bracket was a team including Ivan Rose, Joyce Hatfield, & Read Kitson. First in the X flight were Shih-Ming Shih, Gigi Spinazze, & teammates. Tied for first in their flight were Phyllis & Alex. This sectional offered something for everyone, with knockouts, Easybridge games, and pair games on Sunday. I know several people were disappointed that the Swiss team game only lasted six rounds. Perhaps there is no pleasing everyone.

At the Napa sectional Gary & Jan Soules had a section top. A team with Tania Moalem & Shih-Ming Shih was first in their strat.

I enjoyed a full week of the Sacramento regional, watching our unit members do well. Ray & Maxine Lubow had a strat top in the charity pairs. Ted Richmond & Bill Riester, Jr. won a two-session senior pairs game, while David Chang was first in his strat. Faye Parsons won one open pairs game, helped by a 73% game. Ron Siegrist & Ray Yuenger had a strat top in another one.

Winning strat B & C in Swiss teams were Richard Jacobs, Malcolm Stewart, Robert & Joan Rouse. Rose Meltzer’s team won a knockout, as did a team including Marcia & Mark Dean, and a team including Rich Jacobs. The Rouses teamed up with Frank Napolitan & Ursula Guelnder for a strat top in a single session Swiss game. In the final Swiss games, the team of Kou-Ping Cheng & Jeffrey Hu took first in A/X.
