Let me call you sweetheart (imagine a musical note).  Let someone call you sweetheart, anyway.  It’s that month.  Our unit game on Thursday, February 11, is a mixed pairs game for vals and tines.  (Will this pun gets edited out?)  If you consider yourselves a mixed pair, I for one won’t give you an argument.  Show up at the San Jose Bridge Center by 7 p.m.

Were you bored reading of Andrea Malone’s successes?  Charley James has solved your problem by marrying her in Reno just before the last December regional, a year after they met there.  They looked radiant playing bridge on their wedding day.  Here’s to the new Andrea James.  Welcome to the unit, Charley.  That’s one way to recruit members.

Since sweethearts are this month’s theme, I can now reveal . . . . Oh, I have to stick to this unit.  Never mind.

A two-session Grand National Team qualifying game is scheduled for February 13, beginning at 11 a.m.

Lest old acquaintance be forgot, it’s time to look back.  If you weren’t at one of the 13 tables at our Christmas party, you missed a lot of fun and good food, including a big turkey provided by Dan Turkus, a honey-baked ham, and tasty contributions by many others.  Thanks to Lynn Yokel for organizing it all (and for being a forgiving partner).  Overall winners were Joyce Hatfield and Barbara Farmer, with Don Nemiro and Fran Dickman first in their direction.

STAC week took the place of most local tournaments in December, except for the Reno regional.  Faye Parsons had a nice run in Reno (I don’t mean skiing), finishing first in a two-session senior pairs and tying for second in senior Swiss teams.  Knockout winners included Rose Johnson-Meltzer, Lisa Fishman, Neal Webb and Ray Yuenger.  Single session Swiss winners were Chin and Melody Chao and Tad and Flo Yoshikawa.  Section and flight tops were earned by K. P. Cheng, Jeffrey Hu, Daren Kuo, Lisa Fishman, Charles Gulland, Jack Shannahan, Bill Langlois, Marshall Yancey and Marolyn Imaoka-Yancey.

Here are results from the first two days of what I hear is the last Monterey regional.  Section and flights tops by Lynn Yokel and Ray Yuenger, Boris Ginzburg and Victor Rivkin, George Pledger and Gigi Spinazze.  George and Gigi are on a roll.

Just have room for rank advancements.  Congratulations to new Junior Masters Edith Fiore, Irene Price, William Price, Carl Sessler; Club Masters Barbara Ohman, Shih-Ming Shih; Sectional Masters Stan Batiste, Mike Braun, Sherry Waki; Regional Masters Mike Cailean, Katherine Maxfield, John Swindlehurst; and Life Masters Charlotte Sharples and Sabina Siem.

Let’s get some new people into the bridge club.  A good entry level game for complete beginners as well as social players is Easybridge! 2, which is just starting Sundays at 6:30 p.m.  A little teaching, a lot of play and fun.  Call Lynn Yokel at (408)374-4669.

New rosters are available for $1 at the club.
