It’s time for our unit’s potluck holiday party on Sunday December 18. Please sign up ahead of time at the San Jose Bridge Center. Dinner is at 5 p.m. with a stratified pairs game to follow. If you want to help set up the tables and chairs, show up a half hour earlier. I’ll be happy to hear from any volunteer who knows how to run an old-fashioned coffee percolator.

STAC week ends the week before this holiday party. This event allows you to win silver points in your regular club game. The unit is holding a special STAC game on Sunday December 11 at 11 a.m. Later that day Faye Parsons is having her Sunday game’s holiday party.

Looking back, at the Santa Cruz sectional, stratification tops in pair games were earned by Michael Fleisher & Mindy Foos, Marc Epstein, Mike Carney, and Lynn Yokel with a 75.46% game. Frank Lowenthal’s team took first in the Swiss, with Mary Henderson’s team first in their strat. At the East Bay sectional, Shaila & Hemante Mandpe took first overall.

Rose Meltzer’s team won a world championship, defeating Indonesia in the Senior Bowl final.

Congratulations to Ed and Martha Sutton for 50 years of marriage. Our bridge family welcomes back our club manager, Judy Fisher. Tuesday nights weren’t the same without her.

That’s all the news I have to report. If you want more reading material, help yourself to a book at the club. Our book exchange is going strong, with a whole wall full of books.

Happy holidays! I hope that, if you don’t get everything you want, as the Rolling Stones sang, you get what you need.
