It’s time again for the holiday season. Make a note. Our unit’s holiday party is on Sunday, December 12 at the Campbell Community Center. We will dine potluck in the cafeteria starting at 5 p.m., with a stratified pairs game to follow. Come earlier to help set up tables and chairs. Please sign up at the club to contribute food and drink. The night before, Saturday the 11th, there will be a special STAC game at 7 p.m.

Our fall Santa Clara Valley sectional just ended. Tania Moalem, our sectional coordinator, and her assistants, including Teddi Fiero, did a great job of keeping the snacks available, including items donated by unit members and even nonunit members. Dan Turkus and his crew got the chairs and tables set up. Thanks to everyone who pitched in. Since attendance was up substantially, the board has decided to try the same weekend next year.

Earning section and stratification tops in open pairs games were Jo Cooley & Paul Nelson, Ray Yuenger & Ron Siegrist, Kathy Maxfield, Matt Moore & Daniel Rappaport, Dan Turkus & Dong Hong, Rose Meltzer, Rick Jasper, Lynn Yokel, Cassandra Leung, Edward Makowski, Derek & Teddi Fiero, Fung Bao, and Marilyn Imaoka-Yancey. Succeeding in the limited games were Beverly Nelson & Lucy Burke, Nancy Rude, Kat Wesolowska & Joe Poppo, Janet Adamiak & Erin Gove, Andrzej Wierzbicki, Carol Woodward, Art Quaife, Raghu & Manju Agarwal, Lori Wortley, Judy Travis & Bill Garfield.

At Swiss teams, tied for first in A-X was the team including Stu Goodgold and Frank Lowenthal. (I won’t say who was in last.) Winning flight B were David Chang, Norman Wang, Chingling Jim Tseng & Boyer Chu. Flights C and D went to Erin Gove, John Prior, Joseph Chui & Fung Bao. Nadia Nilsson’s team won the under-300 Swiss. Lynn Yokel won the most masterpoints in the tournament.

Earlier in October, Judith Clark & Michael O’Leary made the trip to the Santa Rosa sectional worthwhile with a strat top. At the Santa Cruz sectional, a 69.72% game by Gigi Spinazze & Dave Gambelin was good enough for first in one pairs game. T.-C. Yang and Yi-Qun Jin had two section tops in other games, and Sheila & Hemant Mandpe had a strat top. Ed Barlow’s team won the Swiss. First in their strat was a team including Zbigniew Bieszke, Andre Kowalczyk and Andrzej Wierzbicki.

Steve Chen & Stephen Tu won a trip to Philadephia with a first-place finish in Flight B of District 21’s North American pairs. Rose Meltzer was second in Flight A.

Our next unit member directory is accepting advertising. We will publish your business card for $50, or $25 if your business is bridge-related. Let a unit board member know right away, because we’re hoping to have these ready for the holiday party.

No complaints must be good news. I keep asking in vain for additions and corrections at rayyuenger@starband.net or (408)379-7717. Do you think I’d hear more if I published my correct contact information? Happy Holidays!
