I hope you’re appreciating the little changes taking place at the San Jose Bridge Center, rearranged furniture, new shelves, a new club computer. We’re also slowly updating the website, sjbridge.org.

If you want silver points at the club, from August 20 through 26 there will be Swiss STAC games, at the director’s option. The unit will hold a special single-session Swiss game on Sunday, August 26 at noon.

If you’ve been wondering why there were no ballots in June to vote on the unit board members, we had the unusual situation of having no nominations or volunteers to replace the existing members. Almost all board members will be continuing for another two-year term, with the exception of Tania Reyes, who is relocating out of the area. That will leave us without a sectional coordinator. I hope the next one is as organized and thorough as Tania has been. And the bridge center will be a different place without her and her furry companion.

June was a busy month for local sectionals. At the East Bay sectional, Frank Lowenthal had a section top. The team with Peggy Sprague and Ken Rosenfeld was first in their stratification. At the Earthquake sectional, Mindy Foos & Michael Fleisher had a section top.

Our unit turned out in force at the Firecracker sectional, despite the lack of evening sessions during the work week. Strat tops in open pair games were earned (sometimes more than once) by Cassandra Leung, Marilyn Ribardo, Fung Bao, Lynn Yokel & Don Nemiro, Derek & Teddi Fiero, Marilynn Bass, Jay Xu, T-C Yang, Marilyn Campbell & Dan O’Neal, Judy Travis, Tony Glynne, Mike Carney & Michael O’Connor, Gigi Spinazze, Joyce Sogg & Gabi Pani, Elaine Erickson, Wendy Dewell & Phyllis Gaffney, Bonnie Beardsley, Samuel Shat, Paul Nelson & Bill Langlois, Michael Fleisher & Mindy Foos, Bill Reister & Faye Parsons, Daniel Rappaport & Matt Moore, Mary Harvel & Happy Fordham, Josephine Cooley, Michael & Benjamin Leitner, Boris Ginzburg & Victor Rivkin, Harvey Lindauer & Louis Martin.

In the limited games, it was Josephine Murray & Erma McCrory, Dee Peterson & Delores Dunlap, Richard Follenweider & Elenalani Lam, Mo Maxfield & Joan Lynch, Judy Kaplan, Lee Dimmit & Ben Bosklopper, and Fia Bosklopper.

On winning knockout teams were Cheryl Mandala, Yul Inn, Will Watson, T-C Yang, Peggy Chen, Jeff Hack, Louis Martin, Marilyn Imaoka-Yancey, and Mike Roney.

On winning teams in the two-session Swiss were Peter Sun, K-P Cheng, Chee Tung, David Chang, and Boyer Chu. Because single-session Swiss games were a big part of this sectional, I’ll mention these members of winning teams: Anne Boboricken, Jim Hayashi, Dianne Shannon, Tania Reyes, Bruce Luttrell, Harry Shannon, Hugh Roberts, Eryl Barker, Ken Rosenfeld, Joel Koransky, Peggy Sprague, and Karen Hopkins.
