Wow! 132 people showed up on a Sunday evening in June for our free member appreciation dinner and 33 tables of bridge. There was a separate seven-table 0-20 section, where Beverly Nelson & Lucy Burke finished first overall and Jane Casciano & Joy Baker were first in their direction. First overall in the open game were the Baroudi brothers, Bassam and Walid. Section tops went to Gary & Jan Soules, Mike Abrams & June McCullough, Josephine Cooley & Art Fonda.

Many deserve credit for the enjoyable feast and game. Lynn Yokel pushed for dining out. Dan Turkus negotiated the terms with Fung Lums. Will Watson, Alex Tampilang, Richard and Sandee Jacobs, and unit board members helped set up for the game. Gary Porter admirably directed the three-ring circus.

All the incumbents were re-elected to the unit board: Marshall Yancey, Neal Webb, Ray Yuenger, Rose Meltzer, Bob Elliott, & Jeanne Becht. The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and help out.

At the Las Vegas regional, Judi Carollo & Elizabeth Moley had a strat top, as did Jane Casciano & Joy Baker in both pairs and Swiss teams. Rose Meltzer’s team dominated the A flight in Swiss teams, while N. Hatfield, Ivan Rose & Billie Mechanic won the X flight. Bill & Joyce Keckler were twice on winning knockout teams, once with Shih-Ming Shih & Gigi Spinazze, again with Kathy Maxfield, thereby becoming Life Masters. Jim Hayashi took first in an open pairs game.

At the Hollister sectional, strat tops were achieved by T.C. Yang, Richard Jacobs & Hiram Shen. T.C. had a 68.43 % game in the evening to outpace Will Watson. First in their respective Swiss strats were Barbara & Ed Barlow & Bill Langlois and Richard Jacobs, Hiram Shen, Rita Randolph & Shirley Anderson.

Many players earned strat tops at the popular Palo Alto sectional: Robert Elliott, Phyllis Reinhardt & Norma Epler, Ted Richmond & William Riester Jr., Lynn Yokel & Ray Yuenger, Rich Jacobs & Hiram Shen, Robert & Linda Caren, T.C. Yang, Jim Hayashi, Jeff Hack, Michael Abrams & June Mc Cullough, Bill & Joyce Keckler, Jim Tseng, Ursula Gueldner & Frank Napolitan, Wally Farly IV, Jeffrey Hu, Larry & Lynn Brown, Steve Chen & Will Watson, Neal Webb, Robert & Joan Rouse, Mervin & Shirley Falk, K.P. Cheng, Victor Rivkin, Elizabeth Strasen & Stacie Bowman, Betty Ross, Barbara Harkleroad & Kathleen Keener, Joyjit Sarma, Cathy Stahler & Gary Ratts, Ann Mollard, Mike Roney & Derek Fiero. (Sorry I lack the space to mention our many repeat winners.) David Chang had a 70.59% game to lead the flight B pairs. The Swiss team of Barbara & Edward Barlow & Mike Cailean & Robert Ritz tied for first. Shih-Ming Shih’s knockout team was first in their bracket. George Humphrey’s team was second in their bracket.

NAOP qualifying games will be posted at the club.
