This column should be arriving just as you’re heading out the door to play in a session of our Santa Clara Valley sectional, which starts on Friday, March 30. The schedule was in last month’s Forum and it also appears at sjbridge.org.

There will be a pro-am unit game on a Friday night in April. I’m pretty sure the date is April 27, but to make sure, check our website or contact Carole Dietz (408-395-6360), who is organizing it. These are enjoyable both for those willing to share their experience and those willing to learn.

Looking back to the President’s Day regional, Judy Fisher & Bonnie Beardsley started it off by winning the charity pairs. First in their strats were Mary Touris & Art Fonda and Jack Verson & Marilyn Imaoka-Yancey.

Strat tops in two-session open games were earned by Zag Kadah & Bassam Baroudi, David Chang & Boyer Chu. And in the limited games it was Philip Freiberger & Ed Lin, Mary Harvel & Happy Fordham, Alice Benyman & Gretchen Podd, Rodica Cailean & Mike Bennett, Richard Markell, Karen Kulander, Brenda Metz & Cheri Rodolfo, Rosemary Heath, Manju & Raghu Agarwal, Barbara Dahl, Stacie Bowman, Mo Maxfield & Joan Lynch, and Franklin Kitchiner.

On winning knockout teams were Rose Meltzer, Eileen Edwards, Peggy Chen, Paul Lee, Cassandra Leung, Hiram Shen, Joseph Chui, Peter Friedland, Li-Chung Chen, Dianne Shannon, Dan Turkus, Norman Marks, Jay Xu, Maxine & Ray Lubow, John Prior, Faye Parsons, Allan Malloy, and Wendy Fotland.

Swiss teams strats were topped by Don Nemiro, Cassandra Leung, Ivy Cheuh, Helen Chao, Paul Lee, Josephine Murray, Raghu & Manju Agarwal, Erma Mc Crory, Tania Reyes, Gary Porter, Harriel Shea, Panette Talia, Jim Tseng, and Marilyn Ribardo.

At the B.E.R. sectional, Surendra Mandava & Ravi Thomas had a strat top. Will Watson’s team won the Swiss.

Congratulations to our newest Masters: Brenda Metz (Junior); John Bugna, Claire Feury, David Fotland (Club); Wendy Dewell, Wendy Fotland, Allan Malloy, Richard Markell (Sectional); Marilyn Bass, Carol Burnett, Lee Dimmit, John Postas, Mischel Postas, Nancy Ward (Regional); Kamen Nedeltchev, Peggy Sprague, Laura Walters (NABC); Joel Koransky, Mich Ravera, Chee Tung (Life); Zag Kadah (Bronze); Li-Chung Chen (Silver).

Sorry, I goofed again. My last column said the March mini-McKenney/Ace of Clubs unit game was on the nonexistent date of Sunday, March 19. I was on my own daylight savings time schedule. I hope you figured out what I meant.

More apologies are in order. Somehow, back in December the unit board scheduled this game at the same time as the San Mateo sectional. Also, our March unit game drew the underwhelming turnout of two tables. I can only assume this resulted from the mixed message of bring your pet, no, don’t, just bring a pet photo. I’m sure the board will discuss what went wrong and how to improve our unit game scheduling. We welcome suggestions. If you’re really interested in helping us do a better job, feel free to throw your hat in the ring for the unit board election coming up in May.
