Come on down to our Santa Clara Valley sectional from Friday April 5 through Sunday April 7. The games start at 1 p.m. An all-day knockout event begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday. At 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, Gary Soules will give a talk about constructive preempts. At 1 p.m. on Saturday is a game for novice players with less than 20 masterpoints. If you need a partner, call Richard Jacobs at (408) 267-3016. For more information, go to http://www.sjbridge.org/sect.htm or look elsewhere in this paper.
Did you have an opportunity to enjoy the President’s Day regional in its new location at the Santa Clara Marriott? Convenient location off the freeway, plenty of parking spaces, a facility that worked nicely once someone found the light switches.
Many of our unit members took advantage of this regional on our doorstep. Among the more notable results, in the charity pairs, Mansoor Gowani was first, with strat tops going to Michael Migdol & Stephen Tu, Robert Moen & John Preovolos, and Mike Sullivan. Strat tops in two-session pair games were earned by Candy Wentworth & Sabina Seim, Leon Lee & Robert Jonesi, Chee Tung, Zag Kadah & Bassam Baroudi, Jeff Hack, Fran Dickman, Ted Richmond & William Riester, Jr., Eugene Vodkin & Boris Ginzburg. In the limited games topping their strats were Sandra & Ronald Caeton, Joy Baker & Jane Casciano, Norma Epler & Gail Meikle, Joan & Robert Rouse, Susan Ritz, Richard & Patricia Bader. Winning knockouts were the teams of Bill Traver, Paul Chang, Rolllin Cutts & Kenneth Kenfield and Richard Jacobs, Hiram Shen, Malcolm Stewart & Thomas Coleman. Sam Morley’s team won their knockout. Rose Meltzer’s team won theirs. Steve Chen’s Swiss team won its strat. Tying for first in their strat were Phyllis Reinhardt, Norma Epler, Tom and Greg Dougherty. Too bad I have no room for all our second place finishers. A fine showing by this unit. A more complete listing of regional results should be elsewhere in this paper.
At the BER sectional, John Hoffman & Leila Sink were first in Flight A pairs. Leon Lee, Eric Yang, and Li-Chung Chen had strat tops. Rose Meltzer’s Swiss team was first overall, while Tien-Chun Yang, Fang Wu, & Steve Chen, were first in their strat.
On Sunday, April 28 at noon will be a unit game announcing the winners of the mini-McKenney and Ace of Clubs. Watch for posters at the club.
