If you’re reading this as you head out the door to the Santa Clara Valley sectional on March 31, April 1 and 2, here’s directions to the Masonic Temple in San Jose from the peninsula or the East Bay.  South on 87, exit at Curtner Avenue and turn right, left on Canoas Garden Avenue, right on Masonic Drive till you see the number 2500. Hope to see you at our new venue.

The Sectional Tournament At the Clubs is coming April 24 through 30.  Our club will have special STAC games Thursday and Friday evenings, the 27th and 28th.

The third phase of Easybridge is starting Sunday, April 9. This 0-20 game is at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays at the San Jose Bridge Club with a short lesson followed by a friendly, relaxed game. Those who attend will receive a free book the first two weeks. For information call Lynn Yokel at 408-374-4669.

That’s what’s coming.  Now let’s look back.  In March we honor the 1999 front runners at a unit game. Aces of our Club were Robert Elliott (Rookie), Sherry Waki (Junior Master), David Chang (Club Master), Mrs. R. F. Randolph (Sectional Master), Victor Rivkin (Regional Master), Sidney Safir (NABC Master), Tania Moalem (Life Master), Jerry Waltzer (Bronze Life Master), P. T. Richmond (Silver Life Master), Bonnie Beardsley (Gold Life Master), Charlie Dorn (Diamond Life Master).

Mini-McKenney winners were Gigi Spinazze (Rookie), Sherry Waki (Junior Master), Mike Cailean (Club Master), Melody Chao (Sectional Master), Victor Rivkin (Regional Master), Andrea James (NABC Master), William Watson (Life Master), Mostafa Hafezi (Bronze Life Master), Kou-Ping Cheng (Silver Life Master), Rose Johnson-Meltzer (Gold Life Master), Gary Soules (Diamond Life Master), Peter Weichsel (Grand Life Master).

Looking back to February sectionals, in Fremont, Fran Dickman & Don Nemiro were first in the open pairs in their direction. Tad & Flo Yoshikawa were first in the under-750 group in their section. In the Livermore sectional side pairs, James Long was first and Kit Humphrey & Bill Langlois were first in their direction. In the two-session game, Bill & Joyce Keckler were first in the C flight in the evening.

I could name over 50 unit members who achieved flight and section tops at the Millbrae regional. To save space, I’m supposed to refer you to the regional results elsewhere in this paper. Among the most noteworthy:  Richard Reitman came in second in the two-session open pairs on Wednesday. In Thursday’s Swiss teams, Dianne Shannon’s team won, while a team with Stu Goodgold and Robert Ritz finished first in the X flight. In Saturday’s two-session pair games, Jeff Hack was first in the seniors (Jeff a senior?), Sathya Bettadapura & William Watson were first in flight X, Joyce & Bill Keckler won the B/C/D pairs. And Lynn Yokel (unofficially) became a Bronze Life Master.  Congratulations, partner.  I still owe you dessert.

Thanks to the Tuesday night players who made my directing debut easy.
