The Di-Rek’Tor

ACBL Unit 507 Santa Clara Valley

Text Box: So you figured out that we are the toughest Unit around. Not only that, but two of our Unit members just won the World Championships!! Way to go
Rose Meltzer, Peter Weichsel and teammates. Rose became the first woman---ever ---period--- to be on a winning team in the International Bridge Championships. The event took place in Paris. Turns out, in the finals, Norway was the weakest link. Yea Rose!!!
Did you see an article about the International Bridge Championships in the San Jose Mercury, other than a passing mention in Leigh Weimer's column? Now you know why we need someone as our Publicity chairperson. I would like
to have seen this as a news item with its own headline, we're talking World Championships here! Obviously the position is still waiting for someone to step forward, so call me at (408) 395-6944 and leave a message if I don't
answer.
Our Wine and Cheese Unit game, November 10th, Saturday Night, was a hit with 13 tables. And the winners were everyone that came, as I heard the wines and cheeses and desserts were great. Oh, you want to know who played best after a glass or two or three? Would you believe 10 bottles later? Well, sitting North/South: 1st A and 1st A Overall went to Ann Boboriken &
Jim Hayashi, and 1st B & C, and 1st Overall B & C were Maxine & Ray Lubow. Sitting East/West: 1st A Elaine Erickson & Anne Struthers, 1st B Michael Migdol & Quin Yang, 1st C Richard Jacobs & Phyllis Vierra. And I have heard everyone had a great time and nobody was arrested, a director call or two, but that's it.
Next up is our Holiday Party Pot Luck STAC game. This is scheduled for Sunday, December 9th at 5:30 PM. So you can win silver points, eat great food, and we will have two turkeys this year, as the 24 pounder last year was too
small. We will be having the game in the same big room as last year, which is over by the tennis courts and west of the pool. Please sign up for this
one on the sign up sheet you will find at the club, so we know how many tables to set up. And, you all, please bring the great dishes you brought last year again this year....ummmm good!
We have also decided to have our 2nd Annual Rose Bowl on January 27th, to
honor none other than our World Champion Rose Meltzer. Rose keep winning, we love to have reasons to throw parties. That will be one week before the
Super Bowl.Watch for a post card and flyers in the club.
That's it for this month, so I'll see you at the tables,
Dan Turkus
