Hope you all had a happy Valentine’s Day and are having a good time
at the San Francisco Regional. Look for the winners in our next issue.
(Oh, yeah? Ed.)
Can you believe we have had the book exchange going for over a year already? I know I personally got a couple of good books. Thanks! Also, I deposited a couple of dozen (all gone now), and thanks for the space in my bookcase. Please feel free to contribute more or take some for your reading enjoyment.
Regarding bridge, our Pro/Am had 16 tables! Congratulations to the winners of that event. (Richard Reitman & Steven Chen; Victor Rivkin and Julie Joyce. Ed.)
Due to the success of these Pro/Ams, look for a Pro/AM Swiss in May. We will also be having our annual Mini-Mckenney/Ace of Clubs awards game in April. In June look for our membership dinner and bridge which will be free to all unit members! Sign-up sheets will appear as soon as we set the dates.
By the way, don’t forget our sectional March 30, 31 and April 1. Look for a brochure at the club.
Our next board meeting is on March 7th @ 5:30 P.M. Please feel free to stop by and share your input as to how we can make bridge better for you.
See you at the tables.
Report from Easybridge! Corner by Faye Parsons
We are on the 7th week of Easybridge!™ lessons and we are doing very well. So far we have over 60 people who played bridge at the San Jose Bridge Center and we have from 8 to 11 tables weekly.
Special thanks go to the many people who helped me start this game. First of all the unit board and the club directors for providing us supplies and a place to run a bridge game; Ray Yuenger who is always willing to listen and help; Lynn Yokel for constructive suggestions and showing me how to start the game; Donna Webb and Gail Meikle for welcoming the new players and generous help for providing cookies and being available to play with people without a partner; Mike Sullivan and Norma Black for helping with the game; Ed and Martha Sutton for volunteering to stay and clean up and also bring goodies for our players.
If anyone missed a lesson, a workshop will be given from 2:30 to 4:30
p.m. on Sundays to review the following: 1N opening and responses, overcalls,
Jacoby transfers, preempts, opening minors, grabbing that extra trick and
much more. (Contact Faye (408)378-4719 for more details about Easybridge!
and the workshops. Ed.)

Here 'n' There by Barbara Farmer
Joyce Hatfield and I flew to Honolulu at the beginning of the Honolulu Bridge Regional. This is a fun-fun-fun bridge tournament. The weather as usual was magnificent, actually better than usual. We had a section first and were sixth overall in the charity pairs.
Other players from our unit were also in attendance: Don Nemiro; Jeanne Becht; Sherry Waki; Barbara Dorf; Donna Lennihan; Andrea and Charles James (who finished tied for 3rd in a quick knockout); Rose Johnson and Peter Weichsel (two first overalls in stratified open pairs).
This is the third Honolulu Regional Joyce and I have attended, and we had a great time visiting with Marion Thorburn who moved to Hawaii three years ago. We couldn’t suggest a better tournament - a little (or maybe I should say a lot) of fun in the sun!
The public transportation on Oahu is very satisfactory. There is access
to a bay for snorkeling as well as several shopping areas and all the known
beaches. A bus travels along Waikiki beach. The Prince Hotel offers its
guests a complimentary daily shuttle service to Waikiki and return. Every
room from the Prince is a view room - the same view as seen from the swimming
pool overlooking the yacht harbor. Hope to see you next year!!
