Happy Holidays to you! I hope you all got your share of Silver points during STAC week.
Our
Holiday party was a great feed and lots of fun!
I personally love all the different salads, rices, potatoes,
vegi-dishes, and all the deserts, not to mention two distinctly different
The winners were: North/South 1st went to Anne Boboricken & Henri Farhi; Melinda (Mindy) Foos & Michael Fleisher 1st in B and 2nd in A; Alexander Tampilang & Gabriella Bowling were 1st in C 2nd in B and 4h in A. Sitting East/West 1st went to Mike Cailean & Franklin Lowenthal; Ronald Siegrist & Mansoor Gowani were 1st B and 2nd A; Stan Batiste & Joel Koransky were 1st C. In the under 100/50/20 game 1st North/South in all 3 catagories went to Bruce Scott & Natarayan Krishnamoort and East/West 1st in A was won by Bob & Nancy Ward and 2nd A 1st B and C was won by Fia & Ben Bosklopper. Way to go! Did I mention I won best Turkey?
I'm sorry to say we lost one of our great Players, Bonnie LaRochelle. She passed away December 10th, and if I remember correctly, she made Life Master back in 1968. She was a very sweet lady and a great Bridge Player. She will be missed by all those that knew her.
Our next Unit function will be the Rose Bowl II, to honor Rose Meltzer's becoming a Grand Life Master (10,000 points)! Rose Bowl I was to honor Rose went she was the 1st woman ever to be on the World Champion Team! If you like great Bridge and good competition, make plans to attend this game and meet Rose on January 22nd.
That's it for this month, so have a Safe Holiday season and a Happy New Year! See ya at the tables.

Now That Was a Party!
by Tania Moalem
I feel honored to belong to a Unit in which so many of our members are always willing to lend a helping hand. From arriving a hour early to help set up all the tables to all of you who stayed late to help clean up. It would be an overwhelming job to take on the responsibility single handedly, but with all of you always willing to help, our events always seem to be a great success.
If you attended our Christmas party you would have witnessed how all our tables were over flowing which scrumptious dishes that so many of you generously provided to fill our hungry tummies. Not only did we have such a variety of main course dishes, but a fourth table had to be set up just to hold all the extra desserts. It would take almost a full page to name everyone so I hope you don't mind if I extend in this little message an acknowledgement of all who helped make our Party such a success.
However, I do want to say a special thanks to our Director, Will Watson, who seemed to be everywhere at once and made sure our game ran smoothly with no noticeable mishaps. And of course to Teddi Fiero who is always so generous with her time.
Happy Holidays to all and a healthy, happy New
Year!

I would like to take this opportunity to invite
all of you to the
Starting in January 2005, I will be
increasing the point range from 0-100 to 0-299, so hopefully all you 299ers
will be able to come and enjoy the game.
Bring a partner or come alone and make this a good game for all.
Hope to see you all
next year. Have a great holiday season and safe New Year. If you have any questions, please feel free
to email me at carolw449@juno.com. See
you all soon!
Idioter’s Corner
I’ve often said that in pair games, you have your partner to blame and in team games you have your teammates to save you.
Lyricist Mark Knoffler put this
admonition in song better than I’ve ever heard it stated in prose: “When you point your finger because your plan
fell through, you’ve got three more fingers pointing back at you!”
This admonition ought to apply at the Bridge table in a figurative sense as much as it applies in a physical sense in real life. It’s very difficult to point at the person across the table without pointing three fingers from your own hand at yourself.
I have a couple of thoughts about how we might improve the game of Bridge as it is played at our club. All of these ideas are neither required nor prohibited by the laws of the game:
1) How about sorting the hand for the next person if you have time? If it helps people with either dexterity problems and visual impairments, how can it hurt anyone else? Also, if every hand were sorted, any mixing or failure to mix the hand wouldn’t convey any information.
2) How about North-South pairs asking someone form the East-West Pair to initial the traveler?
3) Can we please get everybody to use the STOP card when they make a skip bid?
4) On the last board of the last round, if you are running behind, how about placing the bidding cards for the final contract and risk level (that’s a fancy term for “whether or not it was double or redoubled”) so that the director and anyone kibitzing won’t have to ask what the contract is?
5) Just six more important things:
Happy Chanukah! Happy Long Night!
Merry Christmas! Plentiful Kwanzaa!
Happy New Year! Happy New Year!
