Does anyone have a spare computer lying around that they would like to donate to the Club? As you all know, the one we currently have is going downhill at a rapid pace. If you do, please call Judy Fisher or me. Thanks!
Thanks to all that helped at the Sectional. Dick and Ellie Pitzer, and Alex for helping set up all those tables, Tania Moalem for organizing all the food, Teddi Fiero for doing everything that Tania didn't including more food and goodies., and Jeff Hack for being a Caddy for one Session. Special thanks also go to Nancy Caldwell, who is not even a member of our Unit, but brought all those great sandwiches! Look elsewhere in this edition for a letter from our Sectional Chairperson listing all you great folks that helped out. For your information, this particular Sectional passed last year's Sectional by a full 60 tables! Thanks also to all of you that attended. I hope you all got the Silver points you needed. If not, STaC week is coming.
Our next unit event is going to be a Wine and Cheese Party on the
Saturday after Thanksgiving, then, December 12th, our annual Holiday Pot Luck Unit
Party and Game. The Unit will provide the
Remember everybody, Bridge is a timed event. There is nothing more frustrating than having to wait every round for someone else to move. Well, maybe seeing the score slip with everyone else making 5 and I only made 4 could also be somewhat frustrating, but I'm getting used to it.
Well, that's it for this month, so I'll see ya at the tables.

How would you like to have your company’s name printed where 800 people
will look at it every time that they are looking for a Bridge partner? It’s
easy! All you have to do is to put your business card and a check for $50.00 in
the hat on the computer desk or find Mich Ravera, Dick Pitzer, or another board
member. If your ad is Bridge related, we’ll cut the price to $25.00.
Pro-Am 10/22 by Carole Dietz
THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Our first Pro-Am Game, which was held on
Friday, October 22, was a huge success. George and I were very
pleased with the turnout, and were overwhelmed by the 18 tables that
showed up. A special thank you to all the pros, who were wonderfully
instructive and patient with their ams. And a special thank you to all the ams
who were willing, eager students. I'm certain that everyone benefited from the
evening. The overall winners were Marshall Yancey and Mich Ravera.
This pro-am
will become an annual event. We look forward to seeing all of you next
October. In the meantime, remember our regular Friday night game,
which is now limited to players with fewer than 300 master points. It is a
wonderful way to spend an evening.
Thank You! By
Tania Moalem
This is just a little note to thank everyone for making our Fall
Sectional such a success. It never ceases to amaze me how much bridge players
eat and I appreciate all the donations of food and baked items we had to feed our
hungry competitors. I especially want to thank Nancy Caldwell for providing all
the wonderful sandwiches and home baked items she prepared from her wonderful
kitchen on Saturday and Sunday.
I feel an acknowledgement is due our unit
President,
I also extend a warm hug and many thanks to my
wonderful Co-Chair, Teddi Fiero, whose ongoing assistance made my job so much
easier! She is ever cheerful and seems to have unlimited energy.
The only real glitch occurred on Sunday when one of the caddies did not
show up. Jeff Hack was kind enough to stay for the first half of our Swiss
event and man one of the rooms while our very capable Director, Gary Porter not
only handled director calls but also managed to assist our caddy, Amy Drozdiak,
in our main room. Glenn Paterson must have been exhausted by Sunday night as he
caddied all 6 sessions and did a great job. Thanks also to Ali Pincus, Melanie
& Adam Jasper and Emily Weissman who was kind enough to help us out Sunday
night for our second session.
As always, Jay Magid and Diane Barton-Paine and
Gary Porter did an excellent job of directing with Tom Quinlin helping out
Sunday night.
I hope everyone had a great time. I know I was told that we had 60 more tables at this tournament than last so it seems you all are enjoying yourselves with perhaps the exception of some very weird distribution of hands on Saturday.

It is with these two thoughts in mind that I welcome Tania Moalem’s article of thanks to these pages.
Tania, however, omitted one important person, namely herself, from her list. A good tournament chair should be underappreciated, if she is any good at her job. You see, it is precisely because she worked so hard that no one knew how hard she worked. Putting on a three-day sectional tournament is no small undertaking. Putting on such a tournament with greater than expected turnout and with less than necessary staffing is nothing short of amazing. As a player, the only time that I ever had a hint that staffing was short was on Sunday when Jeff Hack answered a director call after having caddied boards.
Frequent readers may know what I have had to say about other tournaments. One has only to have attended one or two tournaments that were not as well run to know that tournaments don’t just happen by magic. Everything imaginable, from running out of coffee to no bidding boxes, inadequate heating, to no food, has happened at various tournaments in the last year, but not at ours
Are we just lucky? Well, is it the four-leafed clover or the two-headed coin?
