Can
you believe the Holiday season is already upon us? The year went by so
quickly. Yet I notice the same things keep cycling with the change of
seasons. One of these things are with the colder weather, people wear
jackets to the Club, but after a Session of Bridge, they become so energized
they go out into the cold and never notice that they left their sweater,
jacket, sweatshirt or other type wrap at the club. In other words, take
your coats with you. Last spring, about 10 to 15 items wound up in the
Goodwill. Currently there are only 4 things left, but its only been cold
for 2 weeks.
This
last month we lost two good friends in the Bridge world. I'm sorry to say
Jeffery Hu and Bob Plesse both passed away.
On a lighter note, I sprayed the club to eliminate the ants.
Our
book exchange is really going great! As soon as we turned back the
clocks, the books really became popular, so if you have a box of books in your
garage or taking up room in one of your closets, bring them on down. I'm
sure we can get someone to carry them out of your car into the club.
I
hope you can make it to our Senior Appreciation Unit game this Sunday the 16th
at noon. All you members 80 and above get to play free, and we won't
require your ID, 'cause we know who you are. You've been stealing tricks
from us for years!
Next
Unit game, after the Senior Appreciation game, will be during STAC week, on
Saturday night the 13th followed the next evening by our Holiday Party Pot Luck
on the 14th. Just to add a little color to the party you can win Silver
points. Two evenings in a row with Silver! I always look forward to the
Holiday game in particular, due to the great foods that appear at this Pot
Luck. So many dishes, so little time. Let's try to break last
year’s table count of 45, and get some new dishes to try! Ohhh, the
deserts were super!
That's it for this month, so I'll see ya at the tables.
Our Unit
Recorder by Carole Dietz
That would be me, Carole Dietz.
The aim of the recorder system is to establish a method of dealing with complaints that, by themselves, do not warrant the filing of formal charges; or are very serious but there is only the implication of wrongdoing without substantial evidence necessary to bring formal charges.
Briefly, the Recorder receives, investigates and evaluates Player Memos.
The Recorder maintains a record of all player memos
including investigation and resolution.
The Recorder has NO disciplinary authority and MUST NOT give any indication to
the contrary.
So, if you witness inappropriate behavior at our bridge club and wish to have action taken, please contact me. We can attempt to resolve the issue before it escalates to the point where it has to be presented to a disciplinary committee.

I received comments on last month’s editorial from Jeff Hack and Don Hayden.
Jeff thinks that a “Pack a Lunch” team game at sectionals could be easily managed by warning and then making a large order to a Pizza establishment.
Don, on the other hand, expressed concern that people who had to monitor their food intake, such as himself, could better do so, if they knew when the break would be.
It sounds to me as if they could both be accommodated with a short scheduled break and prompt delivery.
One thought that I had to speed things up was to make the first few rounds into Round Robin sections and to power match only in later rounds. This has the advantage of making it possible to play the first four rounds in just a bit over three hours. Fifth round pairings could be made during the break.

All games are held at the San
