A Peep from the Veep

I’m wearing Dan’s hat this month since
he was unable to attend our unit board meeting. The board of directors found work for most newly elected and
returning directors (not to be confused with club directors, though four of us
are both). Most of us are continuing in
our offices, as you’ll see elsewhere in this newsletter. Tania Moalem is our
sectional coordinator. She’ll need a
lot of volunteers when the time comes. Gigi Spinazze is our unit game
coordinator. Mich Ravera is our new player representative (that is, he is the
new representative of new players).
We scheduled a wine and cheese unit game for Saturday
night, August 16. Finding a free date
hasn’t been easy. Come on out for a
good time. It will be stratified open
pairs.
About 170 of our unit members appreciated a free dinner
at Fung Lum’s. After that we had 41
tables turn out for our free unit game, including 6 tables for a limited
game. First overall were K-P Cheng and
Jeffrey Hu. Section and strat tops went
to Michael Migdol and Stephen Tu, Suresh Vasa and Konti Khokhani, Michael
Fleisher and Mindy Foos, Barbara and Bruce Luttrell, T-C Chen and Fang Wu, Coline
McClean and Bev Rennie, Delores and George Humphrey, Raja Smadi and Fung Bao,
Don Perry and Glenn Hudson, Gerry and Joan Piaget, Harry Shannon and Hugh
Roberts, Patricia Yelvington and Jan Kiernan, Joseph Poppo and Tomie Sera,
Nathalie Guiragossian and Vicky Xu.
Our club’s new Friday night game for players with under
200 masterpoints got off to a great start with 9 tables. George Pledger and
Carole Dietz are offering hand records and discussion after the game, so it
should be a good learning experience.
Faye Parsons is starting a new afternoon game for
beginners on Sunday August 10. Call her
at 408-378-4719 for further information.

I’m sorry to report Bill Traver has been hospitalized and
Don Perry passed away, as did Dan’s mother-in-law. Condolences to all and best
wishes for Bill’s recovery. Next month you can look forward to Dan’s quips.

Tables at First Friday Night Limited Game by

The first Friday Night Bridge Game, held July 1, was very successful. We had 9 full tables of enthusiastic players. The game, limited players to 200 Masterpoints or less, fills a need for players in that category who live in the greater San Jose Area. And, we are the only limited game to provide hand records and discuss the "problem" hands after the game is completed.
We start promptly at 7:00pm with the expectation that we will be ready for the post game review by 10:15. We have good food and a relaxed, friendly environment. We encourage everyone who finds this atmosphere appealing to attend our game.
