December 6th, 2000 Minutes of the Santa Clara Valley Unit Board, Unit #507

Dan Turkus called the meeting to order. Members present were Marshall Yancey, Phylliss Vierra, Dan Turkus, Art Fonda, Lynn Yokel, Jeanne Becht, Rose Meltzer, Ray Yuenger, Jeff Hack, and Neal Webb.

The Secretary’s report was accepted as read. The Treasurer’s report was approved after Neal Webb amended it to include the assets listed plus $493 from the ACBL.

Lynn Yokel: brought up a discussion concerning Al Becker's article in the Director, suggesting that one should not ask the meaning of a bid if it is not alerted. One of our members was chastised during a bridge game, at the table, for inquiring about a bid during an auction. Suggestions were made by the Board that one might quickly explain the bid or say it's not material. Lynn will talk to Bill Langlois about resolving this.

Phyllis Vierra: the D21 coordinator says that fees will be raised at tournaments, an increase of $.40 per table. New members will receive 2 magazines with full payment of fees (the Bulletin and Audrey Grant's magazine). Jeff will bring up the Unit's objections at the next D21 Board Meeting to not having half-price membership available to new members. The Tournament coordinators' bulletin board is now on the net.

Dan Turkus: is not sure if John Lagodimos received his letter about Peter Weichel's problem with D21. He also said that he will call around about colleges, etc.

Unit Games: the Donna Monday Memorial will be held January 14th at 1:00; $1 extra per person as a donation to a cancer charity. The Unit Pro-Am will be held February 4th at 1:00. Lynn will mail postcards advertising the 2 Unit Games and listing our Sectional schedule, to be held March 30-April 1.

Bob Elliott: he wants another meeting of the New-member committee to discuss concerns and ideas outlined in the packet he wrote.

Ray Yuenger: the 800 number for D21 is worse than useless.

The next Unit Board meeting will be held January 10, 2001.
